How to beat the heat and stay cool during the hottest months of summer? Are those cute strappy sandals giving you horrible shoe bites? Are you fed up of using layers of skincare and makeup? All the tips and products mentioned below might help you deal with some of the most common summer problems and help you stay cool until Fall.

Lighter and Brighter -
BB creams, Mineral powders or tinted moisturizers with sunblock are perfect multitasking products for summer. Multi-purpose stains such as RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek or Revolution Organics Freedom Glow beauty balms are lighter, easier to apply, easier to carry around and create a natural glow without being harmful for your skin. If you need to apply concealers, you can try products such as Jane Iredale Active Light under eye concealer (read Bella Sugar Review here) or RMS Un-Coverup for a light and natural face.
Glamour's beauty editors helped put together a collection of perfect summer essentials for Birchbox's July theme box which includes the popular Boscia BB cream, Oscar de la Renta "live in love" perfume, Alterna Bamboo UV + color protection fade-proof fluide, Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner, new Lara bars and neon earbuds. You can shop their collection to find your own perfect summer essentials.
Clean and Clear -
Double cleansing method works great for summer. Try a cleaning oil such as Bosica MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil or DHC cleansing oil for a super clean and clear face. You can also add Clarisonic to your skincare routine if you need more help. Charcoal based products such as Boscia Luminizing Black Mask might be helpful too. Here is a recipe to make your own Charcoal mask.

Shoe Away the Bites -
Deodorant to protect shoe induced blisters? This is something new to me but since I am very prone to shoe bites, I am always in search of tips to avoid them. According to Beth Shepouri, Beauty blogger, the silicone in deodorants is supposed to help induce some slip into the shoe straps so your feet is protected from shoe induced blisters. I used Burt's Bees lipbalm instead and it worked pretty well. This is worth trying for anyone who has been a serious victim of shoe bites.
Easy Breezy Hair -
Hair up and away from the neck and face is another way to stay cool during hot summer days. Birchbox's video below shows how to make your second day hair look effortlessly beautiful by turning it into a messy bun with the help of dry shampoos. Dry shampoos can add a volumizing effect and also absorb oils to keep your hair clean and mess free. Here is a DIY recipe for making your own dry scented shampoo that includes cocoa as one of the ingredients.
Cool Prints:
Tropical prints are perfect for July and we saw this beautiful print on the Spring / Summer 2012 runways. Adding trendy accessories is a great way to look fresh without having to spend a lot of money. Here is a DIY video on how to make your own topical print clutch without breaking your wallet. Check these tropical and beach inspired bags by Dezso for inspiration.

Tame the Hunger:
Summer can induce intense hunger and if you are trying to stay healthy then you might be looking for healthy snacks that you can eat many times a day without hurting your health. Nuts, fruits and Nut bars such as Lara Bars or Pure Raw Fruit & Nut Bars make perfect snacks for summers. Here is a DIY recipe to make your own nut bars.
Fresh and Simple:
A hand sanitizing spray such as Dr. Bronner's Organic Lavender Hand Sanitizing Spray or Burt's Bees Aloe & Witch Hazel Hand Sanitizer can be used on your sandals, shoes, wallets, bags or clothes for a fresh feel. You can also use it to clean makeup brushes, skincare tools or anything appropriate you can think of. Great for travel if your travel medium is a bus, train or a car. If you are flying out, this can be carried in your check-in luggage but not your carry-ons because of the alcohol content. These products are natural, safe, versatile and multitasking with an ingredient list that is easy to read. This is one of my favorite affordable products for summer. You can try any natural brand (I use Dr Bronner's).
What are your favorite tips or problem solvers for summer induced problems? Would love to read your comments :)

You are amazing just the way you are. I am sure you will look great with your hair up :)
DeleteLove your mention on the natural brands. Although I do not use only natural brands, I do prefer them. RMS is on the top of my list to try:)
ReplyDeleteI prefer natural brands too. Too many chemical names in my products make me uncomfortable. I am also a chemistry major and that might explain why. :)
DeleteVery Summer-y. :D
ReplyDeletegreat article, I like the natural brand too! I love the easy breezy hair, although summer is a tough cookie. I usually add some kerastase oil before my anti frizz foam to keep it from looking 70's afro style.

Great tips! I agree that paring down the beauty routine is the way to go in the hot summer months. I'm a long time user of BB creams and I think they're such a time saver all around. I wish I could have easy breezy hair but my angled bob tells me otherwise ;p I love the tip on using silicone to prevent "shoe bites" I will definitely be trying this one with my new sandals :)

Great tips! Another idea for the shoes actually is using Vaseline! I am a runner and my runners used to give me terrible blisters, I now put vaseline on the back of them and never get blisters any more!

I can see why Vaseline would work too. I tried lip balm and it works well so I guess anything with oil or slip would work. Thanks for the tip! :)
